St. Eustatius

This Dutch island of under 3,000 residents is often known by its nickname, Statia. A quiet hideaway, the focal point of the island is the Quill, an 1,800-foot peak of an extinct volcano. Hikers can climb the steep slopes, verdant with tropical growth, and enjoy a look down into the crater. This rugged island has volcanic sand beaches and waters popular with both snorkelers and scuba divers.

This destination is especially popular with wreck divers, thanks to the 100+ trading ships sunk off its coastline.
